Remote Printing in SimpleHelp
An overview on printing from a remote machine to a local printer using SimpleHelp
SimpleHelp 5.2.9 introduces a new feature that enables a technician to easily invoke a print job on a remote machine and direct the output to one of their local printers. This is saves the technician from having to copy the file to their local machine, and is especially useful when printing from applications that are not installed on their local machine.
Remote printing requires the technician to be connecting to a Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016 (or later) remote machine.
Enabling Remote Printing
To enable Remote Printing on a Remote Access Service, select the service in the Access tab, and enable Remote Printing from the Advanced Actions Panel.
Once enabled for a particular machine, any Technician that connects to the machine will be able to print to a local printer if desired. Technician's can use the Remote Printing session setting to control whether they wish to allow Remote Printing or not.
If the session setting is enabled and remote printing is allowed on a remote machine the SimpleHelp Remote Printer will be automatically installed when a session to the remote machine starts. The printer will appear like any other printer in the operating system print dialog.
Remote Printing
To start a remote print job, invoke the print action in your application on the remote machine. In the resulting print dialog choose SimpleHelp Remote Printer as the printer to use.
SimpleHelp will then process the print task on the remote machine, and send the result back to your local machine through the SimpleHelp session.
SimpleHelp will then prompt the technician to select the printer that they wish to send the print task to.
