Migrating v4.1 Remote Access Services

If you are migrating a 4.2 or later server, please see our Migration Guide.

If you have Remote Access services made available on one SimpleHelp server and you want to move them to a new SimpleHelp server you have a number of options.

If your Remote Access services are pointed at a domain then if you set up a new SimpleHelp server on the same port as the previous one and move the domain to point to the new SimpleHelp server all the Remote Access services will become available on the new SimpleHelp server when the DNS updates propagate.

For example: your existing services are pointed at example.com:8000, so you set up a new SimpleHelp server on port 8000 on another machine, then configure example.com to point to the IP address of the new machine.

If your Remote Access services are not pointed at a domain or you need to change the domain, you can use the existing SimpleHelp server to configure the Remote Access services to either point exclusively to the new SimpleHelp server or to point to it in addition to the existing server.

For example: your existing services are pointed to 1.2.3.4:8000 and you set up a new SimpleHelp server on 5.6.7.8:8000. You can use the original SimpleHelp server to configure the Remote Access services via the access tab (inside the details sub-panel) and add http://5.6.7.8:8000 to the list of SimpleHelp servers they make themselves available on. You can then delete the original http://1.2.3.4:8000 entry for the existing server or leave it and delete it later.
