Cloning the Remote Access Service
Each Remote Access Service installation has a unique ID that the server uses to communicate with the service. If a Remote Access Service is copied from one installation to another then the current service configuration will be copied as well, and this will include the service ID. The result is that multiple services will be communicating with the same ID, and this may lead to problems in the server.
Replicating the service ID can be an issue if:
- The Remote Access Service installation is copied from one machine to another.
- A machine is set up from a clone, where the cloned instance had a Remote Access Service installed.
- A virtual machine is duplicated, where the original virtual machine had a Remote Access Service installed.
We always recommend installing a new Remote Access Service on each new machine instance. If this is not desirable then it is possible to remove the service ID prior to duplicating the service installation or machine. This will ensure that any new services that start up will automatically negotiate a new unique ID with the server.
To remove the Remote Access Service ID from an existing installation delete the file:
JWAppsSharedConfig\serviceid.dat
from the Remote Access Service installation folder:
- [Windows XP] %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\JWrapper-Remote Access
- [Windows Vista or later] %PROGRAMDATA%\JWrapper-Remote Access
- [Linux] /opt/JWrapper-Remote Access
- [macOS] /Library/Application Support/JWrapper-Remote Access
